Well I finally made it to the "other" side. I had uterine fibroids that were causing flooding and constant spotting. Had US that showed multiple fibroids and uterus 10 wk preg. size. I opted to have the hyster because it's the only cure for fibroids.
thursday I did my bowel prep. The phoshosoda wasn't too bad. I also had to take neomycin, flagyl, and reglan. The Flagyl made me ill. I ended up spending all night all the toilet and puking in the garbage can. By morning I felt terrible and had a horrible headache. I was so looking forward to anesthesia.
I arrived at the hospital at 7:45am. I got my IV started, saw anesthesia, and spoke with 2 docs in the practice. I was given some antibiotics and a breathing tx. ( I have asthma). I was wheeled into OR around 9:30 where I was promptly given some Versed. The next thing I remember is it being 2:45 and I was in recovery. They were putting oxygen on me and telling me they would take me to my room soon. Apparently my surgery was almost 4 hrs. My uterus was stuck to my abdominal wall where my old c-section scar was. they had to put a stent in one of my ureters to identify it so that they wouldn't cut it. Doc said once they got everything loose it was good. Said the fibroid wasn't that large, but it was definitely more complicated than they thought. Guess the 3 mos. of Lupron injections did their job. In my room I was in and out of it due to morphine. I got my clear liquid diet for dinner and I thought it would be a little more appealing considering I hadn't eaten, but it made me feel sick so I just sipped a few things. At 8 pm they got me up to walk. I could move just fine, but I felt sick so I ended up vomiting. I just went back to bed instead of sitting up. Decided no more morphine for me.
I had a horrible time trying to sleep. There was an elderly guy across the hall who was confused and kept yelling and setting off his bed alarm all night. I tried to focus on reading or TV, but just couldn't. I had breathing tx. every 4 hrs., vitals, and blood draws.
In the morning they removed my Foley catheter, gave me a soft diet breakfast and told me to walk more. Oh and they saline locked my IV. I was able to void, drink and eat more, and walk. They had switched my meds to Motrin and Darvocet. Darvocet was wearing off before I was allowed to have it again. One of my docs came in around noon. She switched me to Percocet, gave me instructions, talked to me, and told me to stay 2 more hrs. to make sure the Percocet works better. Well it was much better. I took a shower and went home.
Since coming home I've been quite sore. I have 3 incisions and 2 of them are very bruised. My belly is swollen. I'm gassy. I haven't felt the urge to urinate, but I go when I start to get uncomfortable and I'm able.to go. I've been taking Percocet and Motrin and it's working. Mostly I've just been very sore and tired.
