I am very grateful to have stumbled upon this site. It was not a choice for me to have this surgery, but without it, I wouldn't be alive. This website is making my recovery easier by giving great information, guidelines and everyone else's personal experience.
I am 31 y/o and was 17 weeks pregnant when I went into preterm labor. There were multiple complications and my son could not be saved. After delivery of my son, we waited for the delivery of the plaenta. Eight hours later, our OB decided to take me into surgery, hoping for the best, but fearing the worst: placenta increta - a rare condition in which the uterus cannot be saved.
My husband and I were aware of the possiblity of a hyst, but "reasoned" that our loss was already so great, surely a hyst wouldn't be necessary.
I was in surgery 3.5 hours, lost 2.5 liters of blood and had blood pressures in the 60/30 range... and came out without my uterus.
I still have my life and my overies. For that I am thankful and grateful to my physician, who tried everything she could to save my womb.
The healing has been steady, the scar will be minimal and I'm thankful to have a place to go to in order to vent and get questions answered.
