I had my daVinci hysterectomy on 7/2. I am feeling pretty good today. The first night in the hospital was not good. I was running a low-grade temp that night and for several days after (the docs say it is the body recovering and nothing to worry about). My bladder was also not working that well - not putting out much but plenty of IV fluids going in. They gave me a small dose of Lasix and that got things going through the catheter. I had very bad lower back pain as soon as I woke up in the recovery room that lasted until I finally got out of bed the next morning. All the pain meds they gave me hardly touched it. I got no sleep the first night because of low back pain. As soon as I got up and walked around the next morning the pain was nearly gone. The docs says they think it is because of the position you're put in for the daVinci and also the length of time in that position during surgery. My surgery was 4 hours long. I had a large fibroid sort of growing down from the top of my uterus encompassing the uterus. The doc morcellated the uterus and fibroid and got them out laparoscopically and left a small bit of cervix. Ovaries were fine and stayed.
I had an abdominal surgery 20 years ago for a ruptured ectopic pregnancy with an incision just like an abdominal hysterectomy. I can say even with the daVinci the pain/discomfort was exactly like the abdominal surgery I had. I would say my recovery from the pain and the ability to move is quicker with the daVinci but there is pain. I think the daVinci web site with the ladies saying they were up and doing everything with no pain the next day and having a birthday party 4 days later is misleading - maybe for some but not all of us. I know people heal differently but surgery is surgery for most of us and it takes time to heal and be pain free. For me, coughing, sneezing, laughing all produced the same kind of pain/discomfort with the abdominal incision versus the daVinci, although with the daVinci I seem to have less pain with them quicker.
This website is a godsend. There is so much information and help. Thanks to all of you on here.
