I know that hearing the other stories really helped me so here is mine. I had my LAVH/BSO on Monday July 30th. Got up at 4:30 am to make the 45 min drive to the castle. Got there by 5:30 and did all the admission stuff. My dh got a pager (#104 they give everyone a number for confidential reasons, so they don't yell out names) so they could reach him anywhere in the castle. Then he got to come with me to the waiting cubicle where I got my lovely gown and answered all the questions again. The anesthesiologist came in and said my risk for general was the same as walking through my kitchen this morning, so I felt better. Saw my dr. again and everyone who would be in there. I got my iv, I am usually very hard to get an iv into so I had my arm wrapped in a warm towel for a while, the iv team nurse came in and said that it really helped. Then I said by goodbyes to my dh and got my happy drugs. I don't remember the ride but I remember being on the op table and they put a strap on my chest and a mask on my face and I freaked out. They took the strap and mask off and my dr's assistant held my hand and they put something in my iv and that is all I remember. The surgery took 1hr and 12min. I don't remember the recovery room at all. I remember them saying "a little bump here" when they wheeled me out of the elevator. They transferred me to my bed and the pain started in. I asked for drugs right away. My name wasn't in the computer yet so it took 1/2 hr to get any meds. My dh wasn't happy with that. I was in a lot of pain and grabbed my dh's hand and said, "with all this pain I better get another baby" He laughed and said "I don't think you really want that!" I had a tubal 6yrs ago so there wasn't any want for anymore kids. Then they didn't give me the full dose so when it wore off I had to wait to get more meds. After that they got it figured out. That was probably the worst of it all. I dozed in and out the rest of the day. Then came my roommate from..you know where. She was 76 yo and had asthma, diabetes, hard of hearing (so everyone yells), and snores. Lucky for me I had my headphones. She had to have breathing treatments off and on all night and they were checking her blood sugar a lot too. Of course, they had to turn on all the lights every time. I hardly got any sleep when I was there. But I kept thinking, if it were me, I would want the care she got. Then Monday night my bladder still wasn't working, so they had to call my dr. They put me on an iv machine to push the fluids through faster. That got things going, so I was lucky. Tuesday morning I got rid of the catheter and that was better. I got some more narcotics in my iv and started dry heaving, I had nothing but ice chips since Sunday afternoon. They gave me some compazine and that helped. Off the narcotics I went. I have had nothing but motrin since. Tuesday my dr came in and said everything went as well as it could have. Found some endo on some enlarged veins (she described them as vericose veins) I only have them on one side (weird). She brought some colleagues in to see them. So she couldn't remove the endo safely, but without my ovaries, hopefully it will be fine. She said if I started eating I could get off the iv. So I ate some at supper and out came the iv. The food was nasty, but they respected my vegetarian wishes. Wednesday morning I saw my dr. again and she signed my release and I was off for home. Got home around 11:30am. My own bed never felt so good. I am doing really well now and am glad I did this. Some dear friends got married last night and I was able to go to the church then come home and lie down and then go to the dinner. I asked my dr. first and she said that was fine. I was worried about my dh being helpful, but he has really been great!!! I had the dr. talk with him after surgery about what I could and couldn't do. I hope this helps some of you that are waiting for your day to come. Sorry so long, but I thought details would be nice.

p.s. I want to thank all of you on the board and especially the chat that helped get me hear without a nervous break down. It was a life saver.

p.s.s. how do I get this to the princess stories without having to type it all over again, can a hostess move it there for me?
