I’m Reneé - a native Washingtonian. Yep, I am from Washington, DC. Because this is a very transient area, you don’t meet many people who are natives. I live in a suburb that is great - it rests conveniently between Washington, DC - Baltimore, MD - and Annapolis, MD. With the exception of the time that I spent at Penn State, I have lived in this area all my life.
I have a “full-time” job as an IT Professional for the federal government. I also have a “full-time” life as the Director of Children and Youth at my church. GOD knew best when he decided that I would not give birth to any children because I am busy helping so many others. I am also the God-mother of some great little ladies. I have had the pleasure of co-parenting the oldest (b. 1987) and youngest (b. 1999).
I have become addicted to the scrapbooking industry. I probably own every major tool that is on the market. I create books for my high school seniors as well as family and friends. The only thing that I haven’t done is created a book for myself.
I was fortunate for many (almost 30) years to have no female issues. My cycle was like clockwork. Every 28 days - 12 noon. I was very happy with that arrangement. No surprises. No mess. After 5 days, I’d return to normal. Well in 2002, during an exam - a fibroid about the size of a grape was discovered. Fast forward. After 4 years of no change, all of a sudden - in 2006, my fibroid was now the size of a grapefruit. I started have major bleeding issues. We (I had 2 GYNs - 1 female and 1 male) tried birth control pills and the Depo shot. My fibroid laughed at both of them. After have a few incidences with standing in puddles, it was time for a new program. I requested a hysterectomy and the doctors said no. We then considered myomectomy, ablation and anything else that they could think of. None of these were options. So after 18 months of alternatives being tried, we started to talk about a hysterectomy. After getting all my holiday plans out of the way, we scheduled the hysterectomy for January 2008.
I have a number of friends who have also had hysterectomies and they were prepping me. I still needed to do my own research. As I was preparing to really go through with this, I searched the web and found Hystersisters.com. I actually started looking around in November of 2007, but joined in December. I have enjoyed the support both received and given. Being on this site has given me an opportunity to “practice what I preach” to my kids at church by fully relying on GOD. It has also helped me “grow in my faith” - as I have had the opportunity to pray for and with a number of sisters. I thank GOD for the vision that he gave Kathy and all who come through this portal.
