Ask A Doctor

Hi my Systers! I just read on the board asking people to share their experience, so I thought I'd tell mine to those who don't already know. I went through my menopause at 43, had 2 wonderful daughters, and had no use for my "female organs" anymore. I kept hearing of people getting different cancers down there. So, I asked 3 doctors to give me a complete hysterectomy. They laughed and said they couldn't because there was nothing wrong with me. Well, 3 months ago I noticed some slight spotting, so I went to a new gyn and told him. He did a pelvic, vaginal ultrasound, and D&C. Everything turned up "no abnormalities" and "no malignancies". I was disappointed because I thought this was my chance to be rid of any future problems. When I told him how I felt, he said, "Sure, let's do it." So I told him to be sure to get rid of Everything.
My hyst date came, I was walking 7 hours after surgery, went home next day. Kept waiting for all the uncomfortable side-effects, and they never came. If I hadn't known I had just had a hyst. I wouldn't have believed it. No pain, discomfort, and went along with my activities as usual. Am now 2-months post op and feel thankful to be given this gift of Freedom! I know so many systers go through an awful lot, but don't be scared; it doesn't happen that way to all of us! bonniebolander60
