My extreme pain with menses started as soon as I started my first period at the age of 15. I had extremely heavy bleeding and alot of pain. The dr wanted to put me on BC but my father totally freaked so that was OUT. By the time I was 22, I had been married to my wonderful dh 4 years and we had three beautiful children because I could not use any type of BC at all (and believe me, we tried alot of different ones!!).
I am now 45 and after hysteroscopy, laparoscopies, D&C's, Endometrial Ablation, and many other hormone therapy treatments to try and control the pain and bleeding I finally ended up scheduling my hyst.
May 23, 2000 I was admitted to the hospital. They had me put on the backless wonder gown and hop onto a gurney. The man that came to take my blood didn't even hurt me (and believe me that is a first because I have small veins). I hardly felt it. When they inserted my IV with the Wonder Juice to make me relax it totally put me OUT TO THE WORLD. So just minutes later (2 and 1/2 hours to my dh & Mom) they woke me up in recovery. I stayed there for another hour and then they took me up to my room. There they checked me and showed me where my Demorol pump was and how to work the bed.
I felt such a relief! The pain that I always had was GONE! Unbelievable! I couldn't urinate the first day so they put the catheter back in. The next morning my dr came in and checked me. He was very sweet and explained everything to me & even gave me pictures of my internals! The catheter came out that morning and I was able to finally urinate on my own. I am only six days post now but I have very little pain - mostly discomfort from the surgery - but it is so minor compared to what I had all the time before! And everything so far is working - bladder & bowels!
The dr told me that I had many fibroids in my uterus, cysts on my ovaries and some growths that he wasn't sure what they were. So everything came out! The pathology report said that I did have some pre-carcenoma cells on my ovaries so it was a relief that he did take them too.
Now I am in the hormone jungle stage and so far that seems ok. I have the patch right now, but due to the fact that I have alot of skin irritations from bandaids etc it might not work out.
I am now looking forward to travelling the Road of Recovery and getting back to the things that I enjoy. This Hystersister Message Board has been a Godsend to me.
