My journey started in earnest about a year ago.* I had been using an extended cycle OC for several years.* I still had really heavy painful periods complete with nausea and diarreah, but only 4 times a year.* It worked fairly well until I started having significant having mid cycle bleeding.* I went back to the 28 day regimen only to still have the heavy painful periods and significant intermenstrual bleeding.* I was tired of losing 3-4 days a cycle feeling crappy and bleeding like a stuck pig.* The final straw was when menstrual cramping woke me from a sound sleep and I started passing silver dollar sized clots...

My OBGYN Nurse Practicioner did the pelvic and when she palpated my uterus it HURT. She ordered a pelvic ultra sound and endometrial biopsy and bloodwork.* There was no abnormality.* She told me about how an IUD should help.* I wanted no part of a chunk of plastic in my body so she referred me to the OB/GYN for an ablation.

At my first visit the OB/GYN armed with all the data said he wasn't going to examine me because he thought I had been poked enough!* Major brownie points for the Doc!He laid out my options:* Hormonal treatment - namely adding progesterone: no way they already had to adjust my OCs because I'm sensitive to progesterone.* An IUD - I didn't want the plastic in me, An ablation - which wouldn't necessarily alleviate the cramping, nausea, and dirreah AND involved inserting more PLASTIC in my fallopian tubes to block them as conceiving after an ablation can be dangerous for both mother and baby,* And lastly* a hysterectomy.* He said it was my choice.* I was a little flabbergasted because I was going to get to decide!* I chose the hysterectomy because it would definitely stop the bleeding and cramping. The doctor chose the method TVH.

I didn't sleep for the last 3 nights before surgery. I verified my "report time" 3 times the day before. I had morphine in the recovery room because I'm allergic to ibuprofen and I refused toradol (another nsaid). That evening the switched me to oral perocet. I went home the next day.

I slept alot in the next month. It took me about 4 weeks to feel myself. My doc described that as slightly unusual - oh well, I'm special! I got the all clear for all activities at 7 weeks. The path report was completely normal though my doctor assured me my symptoms were not. My strength and stamina have increased over the past 6 months and I'm better than before.

I discovered Hystersisters after my surgery. It has been great to ladies have been through it to talk to.

Healing and Peace to all
