I found out in October 08 that my best option was a hyster. (endometrial hyperplasia, previous reast cancer) GYN suggested the robotic and my local city is known for their surgical room.

I checked in 8 weeks later for surgery. Biggest difference from my breast surgery was the warm air blanket they put on immediately- surgery goes better if patients are warmed! That blanket stayed on until I was out in the surgery suite.

I had watched the procedure on line- including the hospital I was at, so felt very confident this was right. I'm a teacher with not a lot of qualified substitutes, so da Vinci made it possible to cut recovery time.

Everything went well. The surgeon asked if I wanted to keep a catheter in after surgery and I said "NO" so that was placed and removed while I was under. very glad I chose that. Biggest problem was learning to cough. I followed the directions exactly and by week 3 was feeling much myself as ever. Also noticed the lower cramping was gone- found out pathology reported the cervix had an infection so glad it was out anyway. No lower back pain either. Didn't realize how much I had put up with before surgery!

Hyster Sisters is a great sight- I found a lot of information, stories of what may happen, so I could ask my GYN surgeon a lot of good questions. I also could find out simple things like what to take with me to the castle.

I think someday RALPH will be almost the only hysterectomy used, since recovery is wonderful. A great option I hope can be offered to many more!
