Having had a friend have surgery today, and recommending this site to her, I thought I'd pop back and let you know what lies ahead.
I had my TVH in September '03 following a partial prolapse during a 2001 pregnancy and then progressive 2nd degree prolapse thereafter.
My quality of life by the time I made the decision to go for TVH was almost non-existent, I was in continual pain and the "dragging" sensation was depressing. My husband and I had no sex life and periods were a nightmare.
Now, my life is fantastic and I can honestly say, hand on heart, that it's the best decision I've ever made, and if I had to decide again, then I'd go for it like a shot.
My sex life is back to normal (ie as it was pre-kids), my surgeon did a fantastic job securing my bowel & bladder during the procedure and I've not suffered any after-effects with either.
I know it seems like a HUGE decision, and the recovery is slow, but the inconvenience far outweighs the benefits. Be positive, follow your surgeons instructions post-op to the letter (REST REST REST), and look forward to a pain free existence.
