I am so glad to say I did it! I actually spent an hour typing this whole story in yesterday but for some reason it said I wasn't logged in and it was lost in cyber land. So I'll probably shorten it this time cuz I'm tired and need a nap!
So anyway, I started gradually having really heavy and prolonged periods about 8 years ago. I knew I had a fibroid but I controlled the bleeding for a few years with birth control pills. Finally in the last year, it became too much for me, causing so much anxiety and stress and I felt like my period controlled my life. I discussed all the options with my Dr., ablation, mirena, or a hysterectomy. My last intravaginal ultrasound showed one of the fibroids pressing on the lining of the uterus and my Dr thought that the best option would be the hyst. She determined I would be a good candidate for the LSH. I had an endrometrial biopsy 2 weeks prior just standard protocol for this procedure. It was somewhat painful, it felt like sharp stabbing cramps but it wasn't unbearable and was over fairly quickly.
I did the bowel prep on Wednesday 4/1- I did the tablet form, 32 tablets in all with 64 oz of water. The morning of the surgery I was hungry and thirsty. I was given a valium (optional) to help me relax. The surgery went well, the Dr. had to make a larger incision than she expected because one of my fibroids had calcified and couldn't make it through the smaller opening. I recovered in the hospital for about 6 hours and went home the same day. I have been really tired and staying in bed most of the time but getting up to go to the bathroom and walk around a little. Today I helped my DH make dinner and put a few dishes in the dishwasher, but that was enough - I knew it was time to get back to resting. My abdomen is really sore, especially when I first stand up, but when I'm laying down, it feels OK, thanks to the meds. I'm taking 1 oxycodone every 3 hours. I'm looking forward to a new life free of obnoxious periods!! This website has helped ease my mind about getting this surgery. I read all the stories on here for a few months before actually joining. Thank you to all the wonderful gals who have shared your stories, it has helped me so much!! Jamie
