My surgery date...08-17-01 at 3:15 pm. I had to be there at 1:15pm to prep for surgery. I had a sudden calmness on the way to the hospital. I would be lying if I told you that I was still not nervous. My biggest fear was not waking up at all after being put to sleep. Anyway, onward to the good stuff. They call me in and check all my vital signs. They ask me to change into that cute little hospital gown. Once in that gown she came back in and put some leg circulation things on me that blow up like a blood pressure monitor. Felt pretty good. Then she started a IV and added some antibiotics to the standard solution they give you. The Anthes. then came in. She was a lovely woman that told me of the procedure that she was going to do right before and during surgery. She said that she would be back with the "I don't care" med. The prep nurse came back in and gave me a shot in my arm to thin my blood. Help me from getting those nasty blood clots. She left and then returned with the "I don't care" med, plus another for nausea. In about 5 minutes I was not in the mood to care what they did to me. They wheeled me down the hall into the operating room. A big gray and VERY, VERY freezing room. I found myself staring up at 2 huge lights and they proceeded to strap me down as if I was on a cross. Blood pressure machine to the right arm and the IV in the left hand. Legs got straped together as well. Like I was going somewhere!!! They then piled these really warm blankets on me and some device that blew out warm air as well. The Anthes. then turn to me and said " dream of a good place" I felt a burn coming from the IV that crossed over my chest and then lights out.

My biggest fear----didn't come true. I did wake up in recovery with a friendly hello!!! What a feeling of relief....it was finally over!!! Something that felt like 5 minutes later was actually about 2 and half hours later. They hauled me off to my room where my b/f and son where waiting there for me. Nothing pretty exciting going on this day except that I found out I can NOT hold a conversation with no one!!! I would start to say something and then out I went.
NEXT DAY:
Well still kinda out of it. I noticed that a evil Maxi Pad was shoved between my legs and there is a catherder there as well. The blow up things on my legs are starting to irritate me. as they are making my legs hot and itchy!!! Doctor came in to see me. Told them to take that catherder out and let me try to get up in a few hours. What a chore that was!! No stomach muscles, where did they go!! lol. Well the trusty nurse was there to let a helping arm. Things went fine in the bathroom. They were concerned that I was running a slight fever and my blood pressure was kinda high.
Day 2:
Still have a slight fever and blood pressure varies. I make the attempt to sit in a real chair for about 10 minutes. The hop back in to bed. The doc comes in and check me out and takes off the bandage from around my staples. 15 staples. Looks kinda weird to see staples in you and not paper. Incision is looking great but now he is concerned with a irregular heart beat. Said that I will have to stay longer to find out what is wrong. He is going to put me on full liquids, meaning that I will now upgrade from chicken broth to like a cream of chicken soup...WOO HOO. I have to transfer rooms because they are closing that section down. Not enough people there to keep open. Bummer. All rooms there are private rooms. Pretty cool. The heart doctor then comes in to see me and makes me wear this lovely little heart device that they have to stick stuff to your chest and you wear this to bed. Later on the heart doctor sent in his Eckocardiogram guy to take a ultrasound of my heart. That is pretty weird.
DAY 3:
Well fever is gone and blood pressure still varies. Still getting blood thinning shots in my tummy to keep away the clots. Making my nose bleed a little . Kinda hard to get it to stop. Had the nurse call my doc and let him know about the nose bleeds. I think my blood is thin enough right now. I get to take a shower!!! Oh my god nothing felt sooooooo good. Got to put on some of my night clothes and felt so much better. Had a hard time brushing through my hair as there was this big knot right in the middle on the back side from where I had been laying this whole time..that hurt to get out!. I took a few short walks usually after they gave me a pain med shot. Got to start eatting pretty much anything that I wanted to today. The heart doc came back in and told me that I had a few PVC's but they were not regular enough to worry about especially since I was not having any signs with it and there were no heart murmurs. Whew! That was a load off my chest. My doc came in around 8pm that night and removed one of my staples cause it was irritating me. And then said well lets send you home!!! I get my things together and leave to go home! Outside, I haven't felt it in days!!

12 Days Post:
I am now 12 days post and doing really good. I had a few battles with Hot Flashes and waking up in the middle of the night with my shirt soaked and my hair soaked, but since I am on the hormone pills now things are going really good for me. I go upstairs once a day and that is usually right before bed time and take my shower and lay in bed. It gets really boring but I know that if I rush it things will take alot longer than I would want them to.

I hope that you have enjoyed my story or hopefully enlightened you some. Things for everyone can be different...some worse and some better. Don't let anhy of it scare you off. Take care everyone and look forward to hearing your story soon!!!
