I have had endometriosis for over 15 years with 2 surgeries for it. I have also had some small fibroids and cysts on my ovaries. I have two children. After my second child I started to bleed more days each month to the point that I was bleeding 20-25 days a month. The doctor tried an abalation to solve the problem but nothing changed. He also noticed that one of the fibroids seemed to be growing. We took a wait approach and he placed me on birth control. I went back in 6 months and the fibroid was still growing and I was down to only bleeding 10 days a month. Knowing that this was not a good long term solution I decided to have a hysterectomy. In town is a doctor that uses the DaVinci method so I went to talk to him.
I made the appointment and on Friday May 15 I had surgery. I was taken to the OR at 7am and at 9am I was awake and talking to the nurse. The actual surgery only lasted 22 minutes. He removed my right ovary, the uterus, the cervix, several smaller fibroids, and the 'big boy' that was a little smaller than a baseball. I walked the hallway at the hospital at 10pm. I was home on Saturday at Noon. I had my first BM on Sunday and was off all pain medicine as well. So less than 1 week since surgery and I am feeling really very good and have to remind myself to not overdue it. I still take naps during the day but overall I am doing better than I had hoped for. My walks each day get longer and more frequent but nothing extreme.
