FONT="Arial"]I had chemotherapy in 2007 which shut down my periods and then started bleeding from the cervix. I had LEEP done due to cervix dyspepsia (HPV), but the bleeding continued. Since I was told the HPV could turn into cancer, I told the dr. to remove it all. I have other medical issues that I do not need more. So I had RALP done on 4/17/09.

We got to the hospital at 5:30 am and I went into surgery at 7:45 am. I returned to my room at 4:00 pm. The dr. told my husband the surgery was about 5 hours and everything went good. He found endometerics that he did not know was there and it was heavy. He removed everything including my appendix. I did not keep my ovaries because they have been shutting down since 1997 and I did not want to have another surgery done the road if they went bad due to HPV.

When I wake up I saw my husband and he said everything went find and he told me what the dr told him. I had a sore throat and wanted some water or ice. Then I slept. I did wake up and ate a liquid diet and then back to sleep. My dr. saw me at 11:00 pm and told me about the surgery I was able to talk to him fine. I was on pain meds and oxygen and a catheter. I had 2 IV and a 3rd stop where they blow thru my vein and it turned lovely colors.

I went home the next day and I was 10 lbs heavier due to the 4 IV bags the previous day. I had some pain but I did not need any meds after two day. I was able to sit up easily and stand up straight within 1 week. I was tired and made myself walk around the house. At the 1 week checkup I was told to stop stool softeners and lift no more than a gallon of milk. I had a reaction to the band aids but the five cuts were doing good. I had to go back the 2nd week because the largest cut was oozing still. The dr. said everything is good. See you in 1 month.

I took it easy and increase my activities slowing. I did laundry but my husband had to carry it upstairs. I did not do my basement steps for 1 week but after that, no problems. I was able to drive after 1 week as long as I was up to it and boy was I ready. The gas came freely and often but after 2 weeks, it stopped. I used stool softeners for the 1st week and that helped greatly.

At the 1 month appt. everything was going good and the dr said I could increase my activities but be careful. He told me see you in 1 month. He also put my on Vivelle patch. I am glad I did this and no more worry about unexplained bleeding. I also was able to stop the iron pills I took for the last 15 years. I do not regret this and tell everyone if they need to do this you must go the RALP.

Thank you to all the other women who helped me before my surgery. Best of luck to the women who will go thru the surgery later.
