I am 41 yr. old and was diagnosed w/ endo when I was 26 yr. old. During this time span, I was on numerous dosages and brands of birth control pills, 2 rounds of Lupron and I have had 3 laparoscopies. I decided a couple of mos. ago that I was finally ready for hyster. Fear of the unknown kept me from getting this surgery before.
I feared not knowing how I would feel after the hyster. Monday I went to the castle and was promptly called into the pre-op room for prep. I had several surgeries and never had any issues with anxiety or panic. I actually had a panic attack while I was waiting for surgery. The anesthesiologist gave me med. through my IV to help relax me.
The surgery went well my said. I had extensive endo. which encased my ovaries, so they were removed as well.
Recovery has been better than I had expected thus far. I spent 2.5 days in hospital. I feared the removal of the catheter, but that wasn't bad at all, just a little bit uncomfortable. However, I couldn't urinate on my own after the cath removal, so I had to be "straight cathed"; more embarrassing than anything else, painless.
I expected to be in more pain than I currently am, but I do take my percocet and motrin on a regular basis to keep the pain at bay. I am so glad I made the decision to go for the hyster. I know that HRT will be my concern now, and I have a appt. Monday for removal of staples and to take about HRT.
I am so thankful for the support from the members here, and for the information that I couldn't find anywhere but here. The pre-op boards were really useful for me, and I know that I'll keep up w/ the post-op boards and seek information re: HRT.
