Had my hysterectomy on Tuesday, October 13. Two and a half years ago when this was an option for me due to heavy bleeding and chronic anemia, I chose Novasure. That worked well and then early this year, the bloating, abdominal pain and painful sex made me check with my ob/gyn and sure enough I had 4 4-3 cm fibroids in my uterus and another 4 cm in the mouth of my cervix. I scheduled a da Vinci procedure for June 30th. Had to rescheduled because on June 22 had a panic attack which had me overnight in the Heart Institute checking out my heart. Once given the "all clear", I procrastinated but the pressure on my bladder and rectum and pelvic area and the NO sex made me make the call to reschedule. This time it was October 13. Scheduling time off from work is never easy but I felt if I don't do it now, when? Yes, I would have done it sooner if I had known the recovery was easier than the horror stories I had heard from my aunt and grandmother. I remember my C-section 23 years ago and how much I had fought to have three VBACs because of that. But my hysterectomy was so much easier than the C-section.
I got to the hospital on the 13th at 5:30 am. Went to pre-op at 6:30 am. I complained about an ear ache to the anesthesiologist and he said no problem. Was wheeled into the operating room and I saw the robot and then I don't remember a thing until I heard my name being spoken loudly over and over again. It was difficult to open my eyes and my neck hurt a lot and I flung my hands I think. The next thing I remember, I'm in my hospital bed and I'm in and out, in and out. I don't feel much pain and can basically move around in bed but my neck seems bigger than normal. Later in the evening, when a tech came in to check my vitals, she looked at me and said, "are you okay?". What does one answer to that? I then discovered then my neck was swollen, as well as my face and I had a fat lip because I had been biting it while the tube was down my throat. The little details make such a difference.
I was released at 5:00 pm the next day after I had peed (no problem there) and passed gas. Eating solid foods was also welcomed since the Golytle colon cleansing worked so well.

It's Day 5 Post Op now and I feel great. I do have to confess, I did over do it today. Went to the store with hubby and even though I used the motorized cart, did walk and move around too much. When I got home, had some cramping and spotting. So, I'm staying in bed all day. My mother bought me a table that fits over the bed for my laptop. That makes it a lot easier. The swollen neck and ear pain was an ear infection that had started before the operation so I'm on antibiotics now for 10 days but besides that, this is not bad at all.

I am going to take everyone's advice and follow doctor's orders to rest so my body will heal. We are blessed to be around at a time when this procedure is available.
