After reading a lot of the other stories, I decide that it was ok for me to post mine. I've held back for fear of scaring any pre-op ladies, or of sounding like a wuss, but here it goes! I went in on Tuesday, August 28 2001, and was immediately taken into the "holding area" and given the mandatory backless gown, socks and told to climb into bed to wait for my dr. He came and asked how I was feeling, and I told him I wasn't the one that mattered...how was HE feeling?! Unfortunately, he had been at the hospital all night delivering a baby, but said he felt great! Off I was rolled to the next waiting area to wait a little longer, and thankfully my wonderful husband was right beside me, along with my sis and my mom. Finally, after the anesthesiologist came, I was taken in to the OR. After 3 1/2 hours I woke up, already in my room, in the MOST excruciating pain I've ever felt in my life! Now, I've got a pretty high tolerance to pain, so I knew this was bad if it hurt me so much! I was ready to kill myself, and had I had the means to, I probably would have those first 3 days! (Sorry, not funny, but true!) I had a self administering pump with morphine, and I hit it as often as it would let me. It just put me to sleep for about an hour, only to wake up to the same pain. I could not eat even though I wasn't nauseated. I went to the bathroom many times after they removed the cath, but the nurses would have to keep inserting one each time, and they would routinely get another 1000-1200 cc's even after I would void on my own at least that! I was sent home on Friday, and I was certainly grateful to be in my own comfy bed! Anyway, I'm now going on 4 weeks post op, and I'm still in pain, but luckily no bleeding. I have insomnia, extreme mood swings, and hot flashes, but my doc says that I shouldn't be since he left my ovaries. He said he's NEVER heard of surgical shutdown when the patient has healthy ovaries. Oh well... Anyway, at my 2 week check up, he said they found cancer on my cervix, but he thinks everything will be fine. Thank goodness I had it done even though it was very difficult. I am so lucky to have a wonderful husband who refuses to let me lift a finger (literally!), and my mom across the street to help out with my son. Hopefully, everything will be fine, and the pain will subside. Thanks for listening to my story, and I hope that I haven't scared any pre-op ladies. Best of luck to you all, and thanks to everyone for all the help and advice! By the way, I purchased the Princess package before surgery, and the gown is GREAT! My hubbie thinks I'm really cute in the crown, too!! LOL!
