My name is Denise, I am 45 years old. I have 6 children and 5 step, with 17 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.
My husband is 10 years older than myself.
My story starts back to early days, I started my periods at the age of 9. My first child was born at 14 years old. My periods were always normal, until I had my last child 17 years ago. I had a Tubal. My periods then started with blood clots, and normally about 6 days long.
I have a son who is totally disabled in the lift and standing areas so I do alot of lifting. My mother was in her late 70's and a brother with down syndrome. So I quit my job in management 4 years ago to take care of all the loved ones in my life. My mom was in and out of the hospital with blood clots in the leg, so the extra dr's appt and the hospital I felt my job was at home.
Sept of 2008 I didnt have a period, I was extastic, then it came back lol. I felt tired all the time and just exhausted. My hubby is a semi driver so hes not home for maybe 3-4 days out of a month. I just figured it was all the stress.
in march mom got worse, after 45 in Icu and on the ventilator 15 days, and leg amputation in june, we knew it wasnt much longer, again figured stress, when my periods came oh well, payed no attention. After her death early august, I was blasted with exhaust again.
I had a pap done in june, all was well.. I have mentioned to my dr about my bladder incontience, he had given me 2 or 3 different meds, shipped me out. He wanted blood work ,mammogram, and ultrasound on my gallbladder.
August 29th I got up and decided it was time for the blood work. That was when it all came to face.
My hemoglobin was 8.2, should be between 12-16, my iron level was 3 should be between 35-75. I called the dr to get the results of my gallbladder, they said they was fine, I asked about blood work, was told fine.
Within 30 minutes I was called back, doctor wanted to see me the next day, my labs wasnt good.
I went, he told me I was bleeding either internally or due to my periods. Welll with everything going on for last 4 years I didnt pay attention. To busy to stressed.
I was reffered to a gastrologist. I went thru the colonoscopy, and esophagogastroduodenoscopy scope of the stomach. Nothing, no bleeding, then had a pill cam, nothing, only thing left was my period. My gastro sent me to a new gyn, He is amazing.
well After 2 weeks, I had a blood transfusion, 3 units needed was down to 6.9. From sept 6th to surgery date to dec 22, I have had 7 periodsand 3 transfusions.when I noticed 90 tampons for a an 8 day cycle, I knew then I needed to have the hysterectomy.
I was into the Gyn Doc Oct 30th. I was bleeding then, He said he wanted to check, omggggg how embarrassing, but he was very easy, gentle and it wasnt bad. He did a biopsy while he was there, didnt even feel it, I was amazed.
He suggested I have a hysterectomy. I was to return Nov 23rd, the day before Thanksgiving. He wanted an ultrasound, and a urodynamics test on the bladder.
I failed both tests, lol. The uterus was swelled, but I was bleeding again, plus My bladder needed slinged.
I was happy, I wanted it done, no more bleeding, no more feeling bad, no more exhausted for nothing. Plus, no more peein the bed, yep 45 years old and pee the bed, think my grandkids didnt get a good laugh.
Dec 22nd.
Stressed, worried, fearful and not knowing what I got myself in. Showed up at the hospital at 8:30, waited,
then they took me back, alone, wasnt bad at all, this is a level 1 trama hospital, so If I had something go wrong, I was in the right place. The nurse was gonna even numb my hand to put in an IV, I refused that one. They put on the pressure cuffs on the legs so not to get blood clots after, nurse informed me dr would be in to see me, I laughed, he had already been there, I pointed he was across the way, in a computer chair, Told her he might be over there watching the movie again so he gets the surgery right, I like humor, she laughed and went and checked lol. She evidently told him, he came in smiling and said, Denise no worries ive done this about 1500 times, We all busted. They brought in my husband, and 2 daughters. The surgery nurse and anestegiolist came in said we was going early, so 5 minutes later I was on my way. He told me, I will take care of you, you wont feel nothing. He had 5 syringes hooked to my Iv and I remember turning into the operating room, and remember nothing else til recovery. Took 3 1/2 hours.
It took 4 hours to wake me up to move me to my room.
I felt no pain, just pressure, til I coughed. I have the morphine pump, catheter,Iv and a Pad, yes a pad. I thought I had surgery to stop this not get it after, my spoting lasted 2 days.
My nurses was awesome, I was awake all night, even pushed the morphine in hopes to go to sleep, nope didnt work. Jello at 10pm was awesome, and again at midnight.
Everytimetime I closed my eyes, the pressure cuffs would inflate, I believe that is what kept me awake.
Doc came in around 8:30 am, said, before I could go home, had to go pee, told him check, been there about 5 times since 10 til 6 when they took out cath, said I had to walk the floor, check already did that twice. he said ok we will scan ur bladder, if it empties good ur good to go.
Came home on vicodin, 800 mg Ibuprofen, colace.
While in route home, about 40 miles,I called my very pregnant daughter inlaw. We bypassed our exit, to go to the hospital to be with her til her mother got there. We got a new granddaughter that evening. The riding in the vechiles made me extremely nauseaous. Sometimes i still get it.
my recovery has been good, until last week I never took a nap, was after midnight til I went to bed, Broke all the dont rules the first 3 days, so please if your reading this, go to the rules page and follow them to the max.
I have driven, but it seems to be the only way I can go anywhere in a car without being nauseaed.
Last tuesday 1 week post op I returned to dr. I had a fever on xmas night, then again sunday. he then gave me keflex and bactrim, I have a histroy of my infection becoming MRSA, since my moms hospital visits.
I srill felt loopy, like I was in a fog, he said one of my incisions was red, and little seeping. So, after getting home and taking dose dr called, and said take a 2nd dose my white count was up to 18 and I definately had an infection. After the 2nd dose The loopy went away. and has been gone since. Not sure if the infection was causing it or not.
I go for my offical 2 week visit tomarrow afternoon. So far I think all has gone well.
I feel good, want to do more than the dont say, bt after finding the dont page and waiting til tomarrow I am following the rules better. All I was told, dont lift more than a gallon of milk and take it easy.
I have been one of the lucky ones and feel really bad for the other princess's suffering so hard. I never had cramps in my years, nor fibroids, endometriosis, nothing.
After surgery, I felt like a puffed frog, my sling was attached to my leg muscles, sometimes they felt tight, but no pain.
Thank you to the hystersister group, this is an awesome place, plus awesome info here. I can read here about any topic, and am not embarrassed, any I know I am not alone.
Thank you for reading my story.
