Ten days later and the events of the castle all seem so trivial now but certainly not at the time. My husband and I were escorted to the preop room where the nurse gave me the gown and slippers. She then proceded to hook up the IV and the leg pumps. I was shaking and she figured I was cold so she put warm blankets on me and they felt so good. Also I believe they put something in the IV drip to sedate me. Proceded on to deliver me to the surgery room where I scooched onto the narrow table. Met the surgical nurses, and the doctor came in and that was all I remember till I awoke in the recovery room. Woa let the nightmare begin. Pain terrible pain, I ask the man next to me for something and he said bluntly, I already gave you something, and he began counting 67, 66, 65. A maintenance man is draging a tall aluminum ladder around and climbs up over my bed and taking ceiling tiles out of the ceiling. I look over to the man next to me, for solace and he is looking up at the ceiling at what I thought was a screwdriver and counting down some more, 63, 62, 61. I figure out it must be the temparature going down. The last number I heard was 55. Everyone is complaining about freezing and they have put more blankets on me. I fell back asleep and woke up in my room in terrible pain. I lay there for what seemed like hours and in excrusciating pain. Finally I hear my husband complaining to the nurse that no one had notified him when I came out of recovery to my room. He had sat down in the waiting room from 10:30 til 6:30. (ridiculous) Anyways he was really mentally and physically exhausted and left for home shortly after 7:30PM. I finally convienced a night nurse to give me a shot around 8pm. She was astounded that I hadn't had anything yet. She got me up around 10pm to sit in the chair for 30 min. The next morning they took out the catherter and I had to get up to pee every hour there after. The IV was still in til the next morning. The second night I got the roommate from hell but that's another story and I will save that for another forum.
