Hi all. It's been quite a while since I've logged in to HysterSisters, but I received a 'happy hysterversary' email today...and I didn't even remember today was the day! In a nutshell, I had a TAH when I was 49 because of a fibroid the size of Rhode Island. OK, maybe not quite that big. I had the surgery Friday morning and went home Sunday afternoon. This was my first experience ever with surgery or a hospital stay. My biggest fear at the time was that I wasn't going to wake up from the anesthesia, but obviously my fears were unfounded.

Surgery and recuperation went pretty smoothly. Vaginal bleeding took longer to end than I'd expected, but again, I 'd never had any kind of surgery, so.... Also, the incision site was numb for about 18 months. Tha was another surprise. I went out for the first time two weeks after surgery. My sister took me to the grocery store, and I was really glad I had a grocery cart to prop me up! It was exhausting.

I had my first hot flash 2-3 weeks after surgery. I continue to have them, but luckily they aren't dibilitating. I get them anywhere from 2-10 times a day and each one lasts about 2 minutes. Long 2 minutes, but not unbearable. I don't take any HRT, but do take Prozac (have been taking it about 7 years) and that helps with the hot flashes.

All in all, I'm glad I did it. I thought it would be a lot more exciting not having periods, but it was kind of anticlimactic. I never had children and think about that sometimes, but I try not to dwell on it.

That's my 'hystory'.
