The adventures of being nearly 6 weeks out. I am 68 years old and not the typical women on this site. I had a proplapse uterus and bladder with not pain. I have had a difficult time getting information with the types problems I had and solutions. I had a total vaginal hysterectomy with a rectocele and repair with a newer type softer mesh use in hernia repair.

Surgery went well, took 2 1/2 hours. After uterus was removed the bladder went back to where it belong so cystocele not was not needed. Thanks be to GOD. The rectum still needed to be pushed back into position. I had very little pain just too many stool softener till I had diarrhea. I have had very little pain all the way through.

THANKS to this site I had lots of things prepared for my homecoming and mental ready
for the days ahead. I about wore out “100,000 Women Know About Hysterectomy”.

On day 3 my blood pressure went sky high. (never have had high blood pressure till then). That was an extra day in the hospital. I am still on high-pressure meds, hoping to get off them when I see my family doctor in February.

Two days and two night nights out of hospital and back to town. On day 6 large blood clots where coming out of my rectum. Spend most of the night on this site trying to find what was happening. A fistula was what I came up with. But why and how. Official diagnose was a rectal fistula. A sigmoidoscopy, CT scan, really low blood count and 18 hours in the hospital, three doctors decided that I had a blood clot that was between the mesh and rectum that went through the wall of my rectum along with some of the mesh what was starting to dissolve. Got home in time for a quite Christmas at home and a blizzard.

Week 2; Granular tissues were removed with silver nitrate. NO pain just some discharge.

Week 3; All is going well and healing looked good still some discharge, just tired.

Week 4; more granular tissue removed but not as much as before. NO pain, some
discharge. Next appointment with my doctor is in TWO week. SO I Thought!!!

Week 5; increased drainage with a really foul odor, a few hours later tissue was hanging out of my vagina about 3:00 AM. Spend an hour on this site but could not find anything so called emergency services at my hospital. Back to town. The falling mesh/tissue was removed by my surgeon.

The assistant surgeon came in and suggested to use a vaginal lavage; sort of like a douche but nothing added to the warm water to the rinse out my vagina for 30 to 45 min., three times a day. Rinsed out quite a bite more tissue and stitches. Last few days very little odorless drainage.

Also had another sigmoidoscopy. The fistula is healing but appears there is a stitch in of my rectum near the healing fistula. I hope that will take care of its self.

I see my doctor again Friday. Should have been yesterday but a blizzard closed the
Inter-state.

This has been an adventure. I have never felt that bad just tired and weak. That kept me from over doing it. I just developed some curves no one expected. I love my doctors. Their caring and thoroughness have been amazing. I will recommend this site to anyone who even thinks about a hysterectomy. It has been my rock!!! THANK YOU
