I'm 38 with no children. I have been battling endometriosis, cysts, fibriods and heavy painful periods for 17 years. I have had laparoscopies to laser the endo, been on every birthcontrol pill out there to control the bleeding, tried the mirena iuc, depo shots, everything. Nothing seemed to be working and at this point I began missing work 2 days every month due to severe pain and bleeding so bad I was in the bathroom every 20-30 minutes. After talking to my doctor who has been helping me through all these years to "keep my uterus", we decided that I just couldn't deal anymore and that my health had to come first. We scheduled my daVinci robot assisted hysterectomy for 2/3/10. It was the BEST decision I have ever made. The procedure went as planned, and I had NO pain after. A little discomfort, but I never took any pain meds. The nurses kept telling me to take it, but I told them I didn't need it cause I had no pain...that my cycle was 100 times worse that this surgery. I was up and walking 11 hrs post op and was released to go home at 22 hrs post op. I had minor spotting for 3 days and nothing since. My 4 tiny incisions are healing well and i was released to drive at 1 week post op. The only problem was that I did get a tiny spot of pneumonia (even tho I did everything I was supposed to) and a cold on top of it. But thankfully the coughing didn't hurt at all. I'm still dealing with the pneumonia and cold, but coming along well. I have to say that my overall experience was fantastic and am so glad I did it! Hystersisters helped me pre-op with questions to ask and what to prepare for, but post op, I have to say I am glad that I didn't need any of the things people suggested.
