I had a hysterectomy and cervix removed on March 18th, 2010 due to heavy bleeding caused by fibroids. My recovery has been wonderful. I can honestly say pretty much pain free. My terrible lower back pain that has been troubling me for years is completely gone- praise God. A little discomfort the first few days when getting in and out of bed or when bladder was full. I was on pericets for a couple of days with motrin, then just the motrin, then nothing after probably 5-6 days. I must admit I took it very easy though. I didn't want to do anything that would cause a setback, so I pretty much watched TV and took naps the first week. Second week after having clearance to drive, I went and visited co-workers and had lunch and it was perfect, I went to target one day to shop for Easter basket items and that did tire me out but I expected that.
I would highly recommend this DaVinci to anyone with similiar circumstances. I had a very enlarged uterus and surgery did take 3 hours.
I had a myomectomy (yes, fibroids grew back) done in 2002 with a bikini cut and that was not fun at all.
I am going back to one of my part time jobs this Sunday and going to another one the next week.
I am so happy I had this done. I was miserable most days with pain and/or bleeding. This is the best I have felt in a very long time. I am 45 years old and ready to live without my periods controlling my life. This however, was not an easy decision. I wrestled with this for a long time and put it off really for 10 years if you consider the fact that I had the myomectomy 8 years ago, which did help but really just a band-aide. I was advised that the fibroids could grow back, but I was betting on getting to menopause. But, they grew back and my uterus was just plain huge. So I was ready to move on. That's my story, and I hope it will help someone else who had fears. If you don't trust your doctor find one you do. I had to go on the hunt, and so glad I did.
