Well just thought I'd let everyone know how things went for me. My surgery was scheduled for 9/25/01 at 9:15am. I arrived at the castle at 7:15 and of course nervous as heck! They started my IV with no problem. I was visited by the anesthesiologist and my gyn who informed me he was running a little behind. (He's so lucky he's adorable and I like him.)
So about 10:00 they finally called for me and off to the OR we went. I think I was awake for maybe 5 minutes once we were in there. The anesthesiologist said she was going to give me some happy medicine, and then said to take a few deep breaths of the oxygen and that was all she wrote! I woke up at 1:15 in the recovery room, in a fair amount of pain, which was taken care of quite quickly with Demerol and morphine. By 2:00 I was in my room and a morphine pump was hooked up and I used this very liberally. My DH visited for what he says was 4 hours but seemed like 1/2 hour to me!
The morning after my surgery, the vaginal packing was removed. This wasn't a pleasant thing but not excruciating either, and once it was gone it was wonderful! I was able to get up and shower and walk the halls a little bit that day. My catheter was removed on post op day 2 (the catheter was left in that long due to the bladder sling), and thank god I was able to urinate within 2 hours just a little and very slow but I was going! I was discharged home that morning with Darvocet.
The first week I had a moderate amount of discomfort, but the Darvocet held me over. I slept a lot and walked a little, and had some difficulty peeing. Today, I'm 2 weeks post op and went back to work part-time (I’m a nurse, but I'm doing only desk work for the next 4 weeks) I get tired pretty easy, but overall I'm pleased with everything to this point! Hey, I don't leak urine anymore and will never have a painful period again...what more could I want! Good luck to all of the ladies in waiting and happy healing to all of the new princesses!
