I was schedulde for TVH, A&P repair, diagnostic lap, and pubo vaginal sling on 5/25. Got to hospital at 6 AM for 8 AM case. Surgery took just over 3 hours. Once they got my uterus out my cystocele corrected itslef so anterior repair wasn't needed. I don't remember recovery, but was there for an additional 3 hours due to probelms with waking up. My first memory is of trying to move to my bed--extreme pain! I really had not expected anything like the with a TVH, but it was awful! Had a morphine pump, which helped some. Urologist came in that night and talked to us. I had bled a good bit during surgery ( a problen we knew may happen, as it has before) so she had to use alot of vaginal packing. Had two catheters- a foley and a supra-pubic. First night was tough. DH said it was becaue I wouldn't be still! Finally got a shot of Toradol and that helped alot. The next morning my foley was taken out, as well as my packing. OUCH! I also had a slight headache, but thought that ws the least of my worries. DH left to go home and "rest" (poor thing), and the day got progressively worse! Headache turned inot full-blown migraine. My morphine pump was stopped because the nurse thought it may be making the headache worse. Then they clamped the suprapubic catheter to let me try to pee on my own! My head hurt, my stomach hurt, my rear hurt-- then I spiked a temp of 101.7!! Could not find DH or mother. My nurse came in to try to get me up to pee and I started crying. I couldn't even sit up on my own, I felt so bad. Another nurse came in to help her. I kept saying I couldn't do it, but they wanted me to try. I had barely put my weight on my feet, when I fell back! Pulled my IV out, broke down hysterically crying!! It was awful! Finally my Immitrex came up from the pharmacy for my head, a heating pad was brought in for my back, and I was tucked back in, blinds closed, ice pack on head, no visitors sign on door. About two hours later, I felt this odd coldness on my back. I rolled to my side and my heating pad thing started spewing water all over me and the bed!! I must have had a black cloud over me! We finally located my husband that evening, and he sent his mother to sit with me in case any other problems arose. She helped my bathe, and rubbed my legs and back with lotion---AAHH! The next day my mother came to stay with me. I was not allowed to go home after the prior day's fiasco! We treid to walk but every time I stood I got so dizzy I had to sit back down. Finally made it down one hall, then tried another, and had ato be put in a wheelchair and taken back to my room! It seems like I lost enough blood to drop my hemoglobin over 5 grams, which was taking its toll on me. Spiked a temp again that night, but Md feels it was probably because of the suprapubic catheter. I was on antibiotics already. I was discharged on Sunday afternoon, after they rechecked my bloodwork to check my hemoglobin and hematocrit. Both low, but put on Iron supplements. All in all, my trip was not at all like I expected. I thought I would be in the OR one day, and up and around the next day, but no such luck. It was really a pretty miserable time for me, but I know I will be gald I did it. Advice to LIWs: have someone with you at the hospital with you at all times. The nurses have lots of patients, and at times it would take me over 30 minutes to get someone to my room. Anything can happen, so have someone who cares with you! Thanks for letting me vent and get all this off my chest!
