Ask A Doctor
Hi! My name is Nikki, and I live in central British Columbia, Canada. I love the great outdoors and the life that I share with my husband/best friend, and our "pack" (2 dogs and 2 cats!). I consider myself fortunate to have a forestry/wildfire management career that I love.
I found Hystersisters in 2009 when I was diagnosed with uterine fibroids and microcytic anaemia. I credit this site, and the advice I received here, for inspiring me to seek a second (and third) opinion on the type of surgery that would treat my condition in the least invasive way for the most effective outcome. More of my medical story is posted in my threads, including this one: http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/sho...d.php?t=397327
This HS site is in my blood now! What keeps me coming back is my desire to be part of the remarkable events that occur here every day...simple but transformative: we come here in need and we leave better off. We come in need of information, advice, support, someone to commiserate with, to find someone experiencing the same symptoms, to hear that we are not alone, to discuss the "gory details" with women who can relate and need the same conversations...and we leave with some peace of mind, we leave inspired to ask more questions, we leave feeling more confident about asking questions, and we leave feeling we are not alone. And then we come back and do it again!
The job of a leader is to "create the space" for great things to occur, and Kathy has done that for us in spades. I am honored to be a small part of this legacy, along with each of you.
My hope for every woman requiring surgery is that she will seek as many opinions as she requires to access the information she needs for her decision, that she finds a skilled surgeon who teams with her in finding the best possible treatment, and that when she enters the OR, she can feel peace about her decision.
