Ask A Doctor

Surgery date Oct 4, 2001. Arrived at the castle at 10:30 am for surgery at 12:30. I was taken back around 11:00 and preped with IV and ask a hundred questions. DH and aunt by my side. I was taken to operating room about 12:15. Briefly saw the doctor before going in. I was given my sleep drugs by IV and never saw the operating room. My next memory is waking up in my room with it all over with. I was so sleepy I could not hold my eyes open. I found out later that it was the morphine pump I was on. I never actually press the button was getting a very small dose anyway. As soon as I found this out I told them to turn it off. I really don't do well with pain medications. They removed the IV and I was fine. The next morning the cather came out. The DR came in and checked on me,said I had to eat and pass gas before going home and he didn't think it would be until the following day that I could go home. I recieved no prescription medication for pain once the IV came out and was really not in any pain. I could not believe it. Dr came in next morning gave me 3 prescriptions and told me to go home. Ibprophen, Tylox, and estertest. I am 3Weeks post op and the only thing I have taken is the Hrt. This first day home I didn't even go to bed until that night. Went out and ate dinner with dh. I have taken my full 4 weeks off but felt like I should have been back to work already. I have done so well. I will go back to dr on 11-2-01 and hopefully be released for all activities. I truly don't feel like I have been thru a major surgery. I wish all of you a speedy recovery.
