I was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma in situ. Following a cone biopsy with negative margins, I FINALLY decided to get a hysterectomy that my gyn/onc strongly recommended. I researched and researched until I couldn't see straight looking for a way besides surgery that I could be certain I did not have cancer. Needless to say I didn't find one. It was an extremely emotional time for me, I had days I didn't want to get out of bed. I hope all who reads this can find peace with their decsion as I have. Reading and interacting with the women on this website has been invaluable. To know that you are not the only one with a physical symptom or an emotional symptom is amazingly comforting. I will be forever grateful to all that take the time to respond and comfort in times of need.

My surgery was at 7am. My catheter was removed that evening about 6pm. I stayed in the hospital overnight the day of my surgery, primarily because it was alot easier to get out of the hospital bed to go to the bathroom than my own bed. I drank alot of water and cranberry juice while I was in the hospital to ward off bladder infection. I ate a light dinner that night and didn't sleep much. The nurse said that was a side effect of anesthesia. I actually washed my hair at 3am! I ate a light breakfast and the doc came to see me at 9am, said everything went well and I headed home at 10am. I settled into bed at home, I made a point of walking a bit every time I got up to use the bathroom. The worst was that evening, I don't think Vicodin works well for me. I called the doctor because I was in so much pain and he suggested I take 800mg of motrin. Within an hour I felt MUCH better.

The next day I felt good, and each day after even better. I walked more distance and more upright, I started at .5 miles for the first 4 days, then up to 1 miles - walking slowly. My belly was swollen and that has decreased a bit each day. I went back to work (desk job) at day 5 and felt just fine. I haven't experienced the exhaustion that I read so much about on the forums. I attribute that to my health prior to surgery, I would typically workout 2-3 hours a day, I was very active and fit.

I am now day 9 - and feel great!! Belly is just a tad swollen and the incsions are a bit itchy. I have an occasional bowel pain - they do really hurt! Right before a BM or passing gas ouch!! Hopefully this subsides soon. I am looking forward to being able to get back to my workout routine in a few weeks, until then I'll keep walking! If you have any questions for me, please feel free to private message me. Best wishes to all!!!!!
