I am starting my 6th week of recovery! I am past the worst (hopefully).

My decision to have the LAVH was an easy one. I was fed up with the fibroids ruling my life. "Accidents" were a normal part of life for the past couple of years. My original gyn said the fibroids were nothing to be concerned about (he also said ovarian cysts do not hurt). I changed to a new doctor and I truly believe that was the best decision I could have made. He scheduled an ultrasound and found I had 3 decent sized and a whole lot of little fibroids. He told me to do some research and talk to my friends before I made any decision. I went back for test results a few weeks later and he went down the list of options, in the exact same order I gave them to my DH. For me the decision was made.

The morning of the surgery I had to sign the release form 3 times stating that the doctor may have to cut. My chances going in were 50/50. The nurses were wonderful. I could not take anything to calm me down due to allergies, so they calmed me down by joking and singing to me.

The surgery took twice as long as it was scheduled to, but I thank God my doctor had the patience and the fortitude to not just cut. (Major adhesions from a prior c-section.) I count this as the reason my rapid recovery time.

I woke up in recovery and my doctor was sitting there waiting for me. For the first day morphine was my friend, along with the little thingy from respiratory therapy. I was moved upstairs and slept for most of the day.

The nurses for the first two days were absolutely wonderful. My doctor came in, and because I was in severe pain decided to keep me for another day. By Friday I wanted out!

The ride home was not fun, seat belts and abdominal surgery do not mix well. Over the next couple of days, I started to feel great. I stopped the pain meds and just used advil. Just had to keep the darned cat off of my belly. He thinks an empty lap is one that needs to be stomped on.

I went back to work 2.5 weeks after surgery, and besides being a little tired. It went well. Fortunately, I have the flexability to leave if I need to.

My c-section scar feels better than it has in years. No more tightness or pulling! I also lost ten pounds!

I wish I had found Hystersisters before my surgery, but I found it a couple of weeks after. This has been a wonderful place to find answers to questions I never even thought to ask. It also helped me formulate my questions for my post-op visit last week. Because of this site and the amazing people on it, I know I am not alone. An added pleasure is I have made a new friend.
