Hi, my name is Kim. I am married to the love of my life, never had any children, but do have a myriad of fish and cats. I live in Texas y’all. I work in the Accounting field and have done so since I was 18 years old. I’m not going to give away my age so we will just say I have loads of experience in Accounting. LOL

I grew up in Wisconsin, but moved to Texas when I was in my early twenties. I met the love of my live here in Texas. Fate is what it is. We have been together for 20+ years. We were never blessed with children, but we have been blessed with some wonderful cats who have all lived very long and happy lives. And I have been blessed with a very good man who has been by my side thru all my medical problems.

I hostess on The Hormone Forums, The Road Less Travelled Forum, Separate Surgeries Forum and the Hysterritaville Forums.

When not hostessing at HysterSisters, I enjoy gardening, swimming and am a HUGE football fan. Go Pack Go. Yes, I was born a Cheesehead and yes, I do own an official cheesehead. LOL

I found HysterSisters a few months after my May 1999 Tah/BSO. I had been to a few other sites, none that impressed me much, once I found HysterSisters I was here to stay.

Prior to my TAH/BSO, I had been thru 5 years of female problems. I had always had fairly heavy periods, which got worse in my early 30’s. I went to a few doctors who said that it was normal to bleed clots and to bleed for 7-9 days per cycle. Than, one day dh and I were being intimate and I let out a scream that I’m sure everyone in the vicinity heard. Needless to say it frightened us both. Thus my journey began. I immediately called my family doctor who referred me to a gynecologist. Turns out I had a plum size cyst on the right ovary that needed to come out. That doctor chastised me for waiting so long. I wasn’t sure what to say, his words were “the cyst did not grow that large overnight.”

I had the cyst and the right ovary removed. My problems were not over. I continued to have issues with my periods and lots of pain. We tried birth control pills and Provera to no avail. I then had a Hysteroscopy and a D&C. After that surgery my incision would not heal and I had to have it reopened. The incision was to remain open to heal from the inside out. That took a long time to heal.

A year or so passed, but my problems just were not getting better and I felt that my current doctor was not doing much for me so I found another doctor. Actually, my husband found him for me based on a recommendation from a friend. After numerous tests he discovered that I still had part of my right ovary and my left ovary had a large cyst and my left fallopian tube was totally blocked. The left ovary and fallopian was removed with the hope that the partial right ovary would continue to function and take over for the loss of the left.

I got about a year out of that half of the right ovary before my problems escalated yet again. Then my uterus began to prolapse. Periods never ceased to be anything but large clots and large flows. It was not unusual for me to sleep with a towel underneath me in bed and to wear two large maxi pads. I had stopped wearing tampons long before that, because it was just not worth the trouble and they would literally just drop out with the heavy bleeding. I dreaded going anywhere during period time. Car travel was a real nightmare as we had to stop every hour so I could check and change.

In mid 1999 the doctor said it was time. With my uterus prolapsing and me not getting any better he said it was time to remove the uterus. At the time, I did not know anything about hysterectomies and did not even think to do any research. I was so ready to be done with this. If the same were to happen to me today, I would do more research.

The TAH/BSO did not solve all my problems. First, finding hormone balance was a real challenge. But thanks to HysterSisters and a very kind Pharmacist I made it thru that part, though it did take well over a year.

What I was not prepared was the nerve damage, continuing stomach/digestive problems, constant pelvic pain and other issues. As with the female problems, there was a chain of events that precipated my issues today. I have had many more surgeries since the TAH/BSO, none totally solved my problems. I have been going to an Accupuncturist for many years now. It has been helpful.

I do not regret my surgery, I do think it was the right choice at the time, but I do wish I had researched more.

HysterSisters has been a blessing in my life. My hope is to help others by sharing the experiences I have had along the way. I cannot change what has happened but I can help others by sharing my experience.

I am sending hugs to all that read my story.
