The best advice anyone ever gave me was something my mother and my surgeon said: Your recovery depends highly on your spirits and your attitude. A positive attitude and active life will heal you faster and more effectively than turning your family and friends into servants when you really don't need to be served. If you need help, ask, otherwise, the healing begins with you.

With that always in my mind, this is my really boring story:

Well, my surgery date was November 15 at 9:30 am.
This is such an.. uneventful story... but here goes:

It was really a piece of cake and I know how lucky I
am for that after reading some of the other stories
here.

I had my TAH, surgeon offered all the various methods, but
said the vertical incision was "easiest" so (since I'm not
Brittany Spears and have no intention of baring my midriff
*grins*) I chose the vertical incision.

They took me in at 7:30am Thursday morning, woke up
shortly after with a catheter and a morphine drip. Neither of
which I cared much for. I did use the morphine that day and
evening, and on Friday morning at 6am they removed both the drip and the catheter and had a nice long shower. They put me on tylenol 3's but to be perfectly honest, I was having very little pain. Friday was really uneventful, felt pretty nauseated from the tylenol and was not able to sleep well, even after two sleeping pills, two tylenol 3's and gravol.

Turns out that I did in fact have a large portion of my
uterus ravaged from that lousy endo, as well as parts of
both ovaries, and two bleeding cysts. Still they managed to
save my ovaries! (I'm 35, I wanted to keep them longer if I
could!!)

I knew the reason I was unable to sleep was the fact I was in the hospital. I truly cannot stand those places. I was getting depressed and frustrated, anxious... and all those combined made it very difficult to relax, even with all the drugs they kept insisting I take. So on Saturday morning after my shower, when the surgeon came in to check on me, I asked if I could go home. I explained everything to him. All he asked was that I "Take it easy but continue to be as active as my body allows" and he discharged me 48 hours after my surgery.

I felt 100000000% better the moment I stepped foot outside of "the castle" (Sorry Ladies, it's the DUNGEON to me) and was thrilled to be home again!!

My surgery was 5 days ago and I feel terrific. I kept the advice from mom and the surgeon in the forefront of my mind. If I wanted a drink, I got up and got one. If I dirtied a dish, I washed it. Feeling this good while still doing most things for myself feels terrific. I've been lucky, this being my first surgery! Took a couple days to get meds figured out but the pain meds are almost unnecessary now.

This is the best thing I've ever done for myself and I just hope that the rest of my "recovery" is this easy. They say the first couple weeks are the hardest.

Feeling some depression at times, but fight it with positive energy.

Thanks to everyone here for helping me get prepared for this... the chapstick and the ear plugs were BRILLIANT ideas and I'm so GLAD I read that here, to bring them!!!!

To everyone still waiting for their surgery... believe me, it can happen, it happened to me: this was a piece of cake! The first day was no fun, but keep a positive attitude, stay strong, get up as soon as they let you get up and then get up ALOT!!! You'll be thankful you did!!!!
