Well, I thought that I would share my experience. I went in to the hospital May 23rd at 5:45 am and the first thing that I had to tackle was the hospital wanting me to pay $$ down and sign a contract for so much/month since we have a higher deductible on our insurance. When that was finished they had problems taking my blood (of course that would prove the norm for the entire hospital visit), but they were finally successful and I was off to surgery. I knew that I would have problems with nausea from the anesthesia so they had given me a medicated patch to apply the night before surgery. I also had to have the wonderful soap enema and betadine douche the night before. Well, surgery went well. My oxygen went low and so I would be on oxygen until Wednesday. I was hooked to a morphine pump and my wonderful husband was good at pumping it even when I was asleep Well, that evening they had problems with my IV so they had to change it to the other arm but I really lived. I too lived with ice chips and a wonderful friend brought peppermint candy and so my DH let me eat a couple of them and that was great.

Wednesday started off great. The took the catheter out and I walked around. They were pushing stool softeners like crazy. I ate and everything went ok. I was sore and still pressing the morphine pump.

Thursday was my toughest day. I was sore and felt horrible. I had my first BM and the nurses were so pleased. I now understood why they were pushing the stool softeners and the milk of mag on me. They took the IV off and I started going on regular pain medication. I took my first shower and it felt wonderful. Doctor said I was healing fine. He told me that I could go home that evening and I told him that I preferred to stay. So, I stayed. I didn\'t want to go home to my bed where I didn\'t have the wonderful remote bed to get me comfortable.

Friday morning I told DH to take his time since I wasn\'t in any hurry. We left that afternoon.

The first week after surgery I was in a lot of pain. Would rather have given birth to several children naturally than this. Wasn\'t excited about mephergan and so was taking only Aleve. Healing fine though.

The second week after surgery is going better. I am still on Aleve and Torodol. Doctor says all is well. I was given a hormone shot in recovery and will now go on Estrace in a few weeks. All seems to be doing fine. Wish I would feel totally well, but I am not there yet. Tuesday will be 3 weeks and just can\'t wait.

I don\'t have any regrets about the surgery. Wish I had known that there was recovery pain so that I would have been more prepared (friends told me that it would be great--granted, but in a few months). Can\'t wait for the weeks to continue to fly by. I am just biding my time until I am back to the active me. My story is not a \"horror story\", but not totally sure if it was the \"normal\".
