I went into the TVH understanding it is major surgery but, never having had a significant surgery, I didn't fathom what that meant!

I had recurring abnormal paps with LEEP surgeries and another one due. A double sized uterus was sitting on my bladder which would eventually need surgery. I had wierd stuff in my uterus and cysts on my overaries. Add in a hernia from childbirth. Having lost one friend to cancer and with another close friend currently in the final stages of ovarian cancer, I didn't hesitate when my doctor suggested I could take care of all these problems in one swoop. Plus, a flat tummy??

The surgery itself was a breeze. I was knocked out, it took only an hour, and I stayed at the hospital only one night.

The post-op has been an eye opener! I was peeing but not 100% and was constapated from the pain meds. At 1 week post-op I went to emergency in incredible pain. There wasn't enough morphine at the hospital to make me feel better. Two hours, three doctors, and one CT scan later, I was diagnosised as having a too-full bladder and colon. The incredible pain was from my 5 month prego-looking midriff about to burst! They cathed me, handed me a fleet to administer, and I went home. Three days later I had a lot of blood in my urine. The ER doc declared I was "doing too much". I was moving around too much with the cath which was like a little bell ringer banging around in there causing irritation. I had been only moving from the bed to the couch to the bathroom and occasionally sitting on the floor to change a diaper or play with my kids.

After those experiences, I decided I was much "sicker" than I originally thought, hired a full time babysitter to care for my 3 year old twins, and took to my bed. Great decision. I've seen improvement every day!

I'm now 3 weeks post-op. The cath is long gone. My life goal is to eliminate my Darvon because it constapates me causing even more pain and the need for more constapating Darvon. Today, I had a normal BM. It was a thrilling experience.

I'm still exhausted and don't know when I'll be back to anything near normal. I have sexual urges but can't do a thing for my
DH (too pooped). I'm beginning to get used to this as normal but really miss taking care of my kids.

Hang in there. It gets better, faster.
