Ask A Doctor

I already had an emergency second surgery caused by adhesions from my hysterectomy. What can I do to prevent adhesions from forming again?

Answered by Keita Sakon M.D.
"That is a tough one. We do our best to prevent adhesions during surgery, by using meticulous techniques to prevent scar tissues, or using adehsion barriers such as seprafilm. There is nothing YOU can do to make things better and additional surgeries to prevent adhesions may not be effective and the surgery itself can cause adhesions. It may be a good idea to get a second opinion from a different surgeon and preferrably bring your medical records/photos from previous surgeries to see if anything can be done."

The responses in the "Ask a Doctor" articles are provided by M.D./Surgeons with credentials in their linked profiles. The HysterSisters.com staff thanks the doctors for their participation and reminds all readers to discuss their medical concerns with their personal physicians for specific information about their health choices, as this is in no way intended to take the place of members consulting with their own physicians.
