How soon should I start menapause after a TAH? I kept both ovaries and I am 42 years young. I understand it will start early then most women.

Reply by Amie Napier, MD

If your surgery didn't throw you into early menopause by altering the blood flow to your ovaries, you should start menopause at your body's predetermined time. 51 is the avarage age. You are likely to do whatever your mom and/or sisters did.

The responses in the "Ask a Doctor" articles are provided by M.D./Surgeons with credentials in their linked profiles. The HysterSisters.com staff thanks the doctors for their participation and reminds all readers to discuss their medical concerns with their personal physicians for specific information about their health choices, as this is in no way intended to take the place of members consulting with their own physicians.
