Hi ladies. I had a LAVH on May 18, 2011 after still having problems after endometrial ablasion. I had a large fibroid on my uterus that they couldn't remove during my first surgery. I suffered from ovarian cysts, endometriosis & fibroids. I felt good for awhile but I started having bleeding and pain.

I felt fantastic after my surgery. I couldn't believe how great I felt; I was expecting the worst. Other than "swelly belly" bad, even my mood was good. The reason I decided to share is because I felt so great...I did too much. PLEASE don't walk an hour at a time like I did the first week after surgery. I thought the more I walked around, the swelling would go down. It didn't start to go down until I started to rest! I also was bending. Quite a lot. That is a no-no. Please let someone else gather things for you. I am a very active person and I found it hard to sit still. I still do, except now I hurt too much to walk around.

Thursday evening, 8 days post-op, I started having more pain. My lower abdomen began hurting and I began to feel nauseous and break out in a sweat. My temperature didn't rise above 99.5 so I thought maybe I just needed some rest. I started taking it easy & the swelly belly decreased but my pain level was increasing. My bowels and bladder had been working fine...no pain. I was THRILLED! Friday I started having signs of a urinary tract infection, but it passed within a couple of hours. I realized i hadn't been drinking enough liquids. I encourage cranberry juice before and after surgery. I saw my doctor and she was concerned about my bowel. I told her about my activity level and she wasn't pleased. I was doing WAY too much. I was to be RESTING. Please listen to your doctor. Friday night I had no trouble having a bm but the pain in my lower abdomen about made me pass out. I had severe nausea and broke out in a drencing sweat. Saturday I pushed fluids but the pain was getting worse. Sunday, I called the doctor. I ended up in the emergency room. I believe this probably could have been prevented if I took better care of myself. I did not rest, drink enough fluids, or eat properly. I'm sharing this because if I can help prevent just one of you wonderful ladies from having this happen, I would be happy. It hurts like hell. It doesn't have to.

I had my blood drawn (still waiting on the culture), urinalysis, which showed I had a bladder (UTI) infection, vaginal exam, which I was terrified it would be very painful. It wasn't at all. I am waiting on the culture for that too. The color shows I might have an internal wound infection. Right now my pain level is down from an 8 to a 3. I am on antibiotics and bed rest. It hurts to walk for more than a minute or two.

Ladies...PLEASE baby yourselves after the surgery. Let those who love you help you. Keep your hands and your minds busy while always having a cup of water, cranberry juice or 7-Up in your hand. Listen to your body and take care of you.
