I have had a very good experience with my hysterectomy. I was diagnosed with adnomyosis - suffered with non-stop bleeding and pain. I found a young female GYN who is great!!! She listened to me and explained all my options. I decided to go ahead with the hyst. She told me she would do it lapro and vag. The day before my surgery she had me take something called GoLytely - - which made me go anything but lightly - - in the bathroom all day long - to empty my bowels before surgery. That was no fun at all - - but would make for a much safer surgery. Went into the castle at 10:00 a.m. on 11-19 and was immediately taken in to prep for surgery. A wonderful nurse numbed my hand before inserting the IV. Then my anesthetist talked to me - - I was given an amnesia drug followed by general anesthesia. My surgery took 3 hours rather than the 1 1/2 hours the doc had predicted. No complications really - - just a very meticulous doc that did a super job. She said she had to shave the bladder away from the uterus - - much scar tissue there due to previous c-sections....She said she had never seen such a healthy patient. I'm not wanting to brag - - but I would like to encourage you to get in the best possible physical condition and as close to ideal weight as possible before undergoing surgery. The doc said that there was no sub-cutaneous fat around the organs which allowed her to see the blood vessels and veins as well as the nerves and avoid them. She said that there was very little bleeding and that it all went well. I was up and walking on the 20th and home on the 21st. The first week was hard. My tummy was very sore and swollen. From about day 7 on, I have felt pretty good. My swelling has pretty much gone down and my energy level is rising. I get frustrated at not being able to be as active as I was prior to surgery, as well as amazed at how easily I become fatigued. Am trying to keep my mind busy and off the fact that it is really hard for a very active and independent woman to hold still....
