Ask A Doctor

I'm scheduled for pelvic floor surgery and have been told I'll be sent home with a urine bag. I like to be prepared. What questions should I ask the doctor to help me understand what is happening to me?

Your idea to take a list of questions to ask your doctor is a great idea. Here are a few you might consider asking. Add your own to the list as you think of them.
  • How much water can I drink? Should I drink extra water?
  • How often should I empty the urine bag?
  • Do I need to wear gloves?
  • Can I exercise with this urine bag?
  • What if I see blood in my urine? Is that normal?
  • What if the catheter comes out?
  • What are the signs of a urine infection?
  • Will the bag and tube irritate the skin or tissue?
  • How so I bathe?
  • How do I empty the urine bag in public restroom?
  • Is there anything special I need to do to care for my urine bag?
  • How long will I need to wear this urine bag?
