So I am in the strange place again of feeling joy for my friends who are expecting a baby and feeling a small part of me die inside. At least I felt happy about this one for a few seconds before the sadness overcame me. Are there any tips for me to get through this once again?
It's okay to feel sad. It's not easy to hear your friends announce their pregnancy news. You might be able to find a way to feel happy for them with time, but while you are managing through this time of sadness and loss, here are some ideas to help you:
Send regrets to baby showers if you can't shop for baby items.
Send a gift instead of attending the baby showers if you can shop for baby items but the talk and spotlight of a baby is overwhelming.
Share your grief. Even if your friends do not understand your pain, share it with them. By educating them, you help make them more sensitive to the topic.
Share your energy doing things you love. Find a new hobby. Find a new interest. Explore new areas in your town. In other words, after a season of feeling down, purposefully get out and about doing things you love.
