Ask A Doctor
I feel so empty. I feel I let my body down by listening to pressure from everyone to 'just get it out'. My surgery was two months ago. Why did I not stand firm with what I was feeling in my heart? Other people say they all felt so much better after surgery. My husband thinks I.m crazy and I think getting tired of my talking about regret. I had three appointments with different doctors. Things just went like a whirl wind at such a fast pace. And now I regret not saying "NO". Am I alone?
You didn't mention why you had a hysterectomy or how you made your decision to have a hysterectomy. You are still in recovery from major surgery and during this time it is typical to feel like you are on an emotional rollercoaster.
Hopefully, during your three appointments, the surgeons provided you with information about your health and fully explained the choices you have for treatment options. If so, you made your decision based on what you knew at the time and you will be able to move forward knowing you did the best that you could with the information you had at the time.
For your own emotional health, it's best not to spend energy with "what if".
Focus on things that will help you get through to the other side. You might consider journaling to get your negative thoughts out without impacting your family and other relationships. Find some friends who will listen to you or seek the help of a professional counselor.
Most importantly, give to yourself the gift of time.
