Ask A Doctor
I had my hysterectomy in February and the scar came open 10 days after the surgery, then 3 months and now at 5 months. The doctor put some silver nitrate on it once a week until it healed. It was closed for three weeks and has came open again. What do I do there is puss and blood draining from it and it hurts.
Answered by Mayra Thompson, M.D.
Your wound sounds like it has a deep infection requiring the expertise of a wound specialist. A wound specialist could make use of a "Wound VAC" which would allow the wound to heal from the inside out. You may also be placed on an antibiotic or other treatments. It is very important for you to find a wound specialist in your area and go immediately for special care.
The responses in the "Ask a Doctor" articles are provided by M.D./Surgeons with credentials in their linked profiles. The HysterSisters.com staff thanks the doctors for their participation and reminds all readers to discuss their medical concerns with their personal physicians for specific information about their health choices, as this is in no way intended to take the place of members consulting with their own physicians.
