Ask A Doctor

I had a total abdominal hysterectomy six years ago and now am experiencing an aching feeling when standing, walking and exerting pressure in any way in my pelvic region. My doctor examined me and said I do not have a prolapsed bladder. At my age (58) does gravity affect this area after a while? Is this normal?

Answered by Mayra Thompson, M.D.

It is very likely that you are experiencing some kind of pelvic floor prolapse. Seek the help of a pelvic floor doctor in your area. This probably means you need to talk to a different doctor than the one you have already visited. Second opinions can be very helpful.

The responses in the "Ask a Doctor" articles are provided by M.D./Surgeons with credentials in their linked profiles. The HysterSisters.com staff thanks the doctors for their participation and reminds all readers to discuss their medical concerns with their personal physicians for specific information about their health choices, as this is in no way intended to take the place of members consulting with their own physicians.
