Ask A Doctor

My doctor saw me 2 weeks after my hysterectomy (laparoscopic) for my post-op. She never mentioned a 6-week check-up, so last week (my 5th week), I called to ask if I needed to come in and she said, no, when she saw me 2 weeks after my surgery, everything looked fine and she was sure everything would heal correctly.

Today made 6 weeks, and, although my partner and I said we'd wait 7 weeks before we have sex, I'm still a little nervous. Should I be, or should I trust my doctor, in saying everything looked fine at 2 weeks?

Reply by Amie Napier, MD

I usually see my patients at 6-8 weeks post op prior to clearing them for sexual intercourse.
