I had my uterus removed about 8 years ago. I have had spotting at the time of my monthly cycle every since. The dr. who performed the surgery said this was normal as the unfertilized egg was shedding. I switched doctors several years ago. Every year I told him this, and he told me that was not normal. A few months ago we decided to begin HRT as I am in periomenopause. I again told him about the spotting which he said is not normaland meant there could have been uterine lining left behind. I am on estrogen only since June, and am now having brown spotting during my cycle time. Should I be concerned?

You must have had a supra cervical hysterectomy and still have a cervix. Monthly bleeding can still occur and is usually light. Options for stopping the bleeding include taking continuous estrogen and progesterone or a trachealectomy (surgery to remove the cervix). this type of bleeding is more of an annoyance than anything.
