Ask A Doctor
I had cyst on ovaries removed three months before hysterectomy. I kept both ovaries now I have cyst on my ovaries again. My doctor wants to remove the cyst again. I am concerned about the cyst continuing to return. The cyst are water cyst. I am 44 and considering removing my ovaries. Would removing them be an option?
Reply by Keita Sakon, MD
I don't see a point in removing the cysts. They are most likely follicular cysts from ovulation and if they look like follicular cysts (as opposed other cysts that look like large tumors), then your doctor probably needs to stop looking because they are normal findings on an ultrasound and it's normal to find them.
Now if you are having pain then it's a different story, and yes, removing ovaries will solve that problem but you will go into menopause.
