I am 27 years old, I have two beautiful children, a girl Caela, who's 2 and a boy Christopher, who's 5. I'm so glad now that I chose to have my children early in life because now I don't have the option of it! I had a hysterectomy May 26,2000. Fortunately I still have my ovaries. I have always had very heavy periods, since the age of 10,and because of that have alway been anemic. During my first pregnancy with my son was when I first discoverd I had fibroids. They caused bleeding and all sort of problems throughout that pregnancy which caused me to be on bedrest for most of it. My second pregnancy things got even worse with the fibroids and I spent 3 months of that pregnancy hospitalized. For the past 2 years since my last pregnancy, my periods have been unbelievably heavy and my fibroids having been multiplying by the numbers causing much pain and discomfort! I have been on numerous different birth control pills, none which have been successful for me and finally about 2 weeks before I had surgery my bleeding couldn't be stopped, day in and day I could see no end to the bleeding, I had a few different options for surgery but I chose a hysterectomy because I knew that I was very blessed with the children I have and wasn't planning for anymore, I knew that I would not have to deal with the pain of the fibroids pushing on different organs and causing much discomfort, I could build my iron level back up and not be so tired because of my long and heavy periods, it would be an end to feeling miserable and get the energy back that a 27 year should have!
I'm glad the surgery is behind me now, I have never felt so frightened in my life as I did the day of surgery! It's been 3 weeks since surgery, and I already am starting to feel somewhat normal and have such a better outlook on life in general! I'm so glad I found this website, because with all of your input I already feel so much better about what has happened, is and will be happening later down the road!
