My DaVinci story begins with denial. I was in denial as to my health. I was in denial as to the impact my deteriorating health had on my family. I had gotten used to being tired. I'm 40 - it's normal to be exhausted and sluggish at 40 right? I would go the mall and get dizzy and have to sit down after going to one store. I remember telling my girls that I felt faint and if I fell, I would be fine - it just meant I fainted. (It sounds extraordinary to think back, that it was normal for me to get dizzy and feel faint!)

On a routine annual visit, I mentioned to my OBGYN that I have heavy bleeding. She asked about my energy level and if the bleeding was so heavy that it kept me home or from participation - I said sometimes. She took my blood and told me that my levels were life threatening anemic. I should have been at a 12 and mine was a 6. She scheduled me for a sonogram and discovered I had fibroids and my uterus was, in her words, "huge". It was November 2011. I wasn't yet ready to get a hysterectomy. I told her that I would take the blood infusion (the lesser of the two evils). I did however schedule my hysterectomy for Jan 2012. I tried every way to think of a way not to have it but I knew it made sense. My doctor told me the DaVinci surgery was the way to go and I did it!

Waking up after surgery was scary. I was nauseated and sore and wondered what had I gotten myself into. Bt once the pain meds kicked in - I was fine...so I stayed ahead of the pain and I had a very comfortable night (as comfortable as you can have on a liquid diet and a catheter inserted inside you). But everyone at the hospital was super awesome and so very kind - it was kind of cool.

I was sent home and next day, I was pretty pain free - I couldn't believe it. The third day I stopped taking my pain meds - I actually walked to the corner store with my 14 year old daughter! I was super tired on the way back - but tha's how good I felt! I was sold on the DaVinci surgery!!!

The second week,around for me! I was spotting a little, but still pain free. The gas pain did start, but I discovered the wonder of the ice pack and I was good! I went to chrch week 2...felt good to be among people!

Week 4 was the turn-around. I woke up and things worked and I felt "spry" I loved week 4 - those symptoms disappeared and no more spotting! YAY.

It's week 6 and Every week gets better and better. my daughter said "I'm not used to this mom" She said, "you don't usually ask if we want to go do something and you have so much energy - "you're different! I did'nt realize that there was such a difference...but my family has noticed.

My hystersisters have been with me every step of the way! I follow the forums to look for questions similar to mine and then I search for the new sisters with questions. I have found new life and new purpose. Thank you hystersisters - you are family to me--- we're bonded together. I'm not alone and I feel great! That's my story. This is my new life!
