Ask A Doctor

I had a TVH two weeks ago. I had my two week post op appointment with my doctor today and she said I am healing very well. Is it okay to have an orgasm at this point as long as there is no penetration?

Reply by Geoffrey Cly, MD

I get this question frequently from my patients. An orgasm, (acheived without penetration) will not cause any post operative damage. However, if your pelvic muscles are not healed enough, you may feel sore or discomfort during or after the orgasm. This is because during an orgasm, the pelvic floor muscles, uterus, and cervix contract. You will still feel the pelvic floor muscles contract since the uterus and cervix have been removed.
