Ask A Doctor

Just prior to my surgery I was doing P90X. Has anyone else used this program post-op? If so, how long post-op did you wait before resuming the program?

It's great that you are wanting to get back to working out! First off, talk with your doctor on when you can start back to an intense workout.

It’s always best to ease back into an intense workout program such as P90X. When cleared by their doctor, some women have started off with light walking and cardio along with light weights for a few weeks before starting back to build their endurance and to let their bodies adjust. Not over doing it is best, as your body is still healing internally and setbacks can occur if you push your body too hard.

Listen to your body. If you feel hurt or sore, back off and wait. Some women have noted that it takes them 3-6 months for their bodies to get back to their normal exercise routine. And some report taking even longer.

Just be patient with yourself and your body and when in doubt, be sure to call your doctor.
