Ask A Doctor
I'm a massage therapist going back to work after five weeks from surgery. I was told by one doctor not to use core work for at least four months. My primary doctor thinks that after four weeks I should be fine. My concern is in order to do massage I use all my core and lots of bending over my pressure come from my body weight. I lifted a box that weight 32lb and was in so much discomfort for three days. Just wondering, am I going back to soon?
Reply by Geoffrey Cly, MD
I don't know what type of surgery you had. However, in general, most people can resume normal exercise and other activities like you are describing at 4-8 weeks from an TAH. (depends on the person and their doctor's recommendation).
After a daVinci hysterectomy I generally allow my patients to resume exercise or working in as early as 1 week (job and activity dependent) or as long as 6 weeks (again depending on the job and person).
Hope this helps. Dr Geoff Cly
